Design:
The AUBMC admissions, ED and ICD-9 clinical databases will be queried for the period between January 1, 2002 and June 30, 2014.
Retrospective database and chart review.
Objectives:
The primary objective of this study is
to describe the characteristics of suicidal patients presenting to the
emergency department of AUBMC in Last 12 years including clinical presentation,
various age groups affected, management interventions whether clinical or
psychiatric, outcomes and to determine the methods used in suicide.
Aims:
1- Identify predictors of suicidal
attempts outcomes:
a) Demographic characteristics (gender,
age)
b) History of previous attempts
c) History of psychiatric illness
d) Most common mechanisms used
e) Try to characterize patients that
attempt suicide
f) Try to help guide efforts at primary
or secondary intervention
g) Clinical interventions (Use of
medications, antidotes and psychiatric consultations)
2- Assess outcomes including admission
to psychiatric wards, critical care areas, disability or deaths.
3- Emphasis on Acetaminophen toxicity including time to presentation, percentage of patients who needed treatment, disposition, find the percentage of acetaminophen ingestion of total drug ingestions

Secondary Outcomes:
The study population will consist of patients
presenting and admitted to AUBMC through AUBMC-ED over the past 12years (2002-2014).
The AUBMC admissions, ED and ICD-9 clinical databases will be queried for the
period between January 1, 2002 and June 30, 2014.
They will have Suicidal Attempts, medication overdose, poisoning, intentional injuries or intoxication as their final diagnosis.

Inclusion Criteria:
Patients
of adolescence and adult age groups admitted to the AUBMC ED will be considered
eligible for inclusion in this study.
Exclusion Criteria:
Patients
with missing charts will be excluded from the study, in addition to those with
unintentional self-induced injuries or ingestions.
